Any other questions about fiber?

Fiber is a future-proof technology that transmits data over long distances at the speed of light.

Proximus is modernizing its network (also in collaboration with other partners) by gradually replacing existing copper cables with fiber cables. Eventually, the copper network will be fully replaced by this new technology.

By working hand in hand with the construction sector, most of the new housing estates and apartment buildings are immediately connected to our fiber network.

  • For houses, replacing your copper cable with fiber takes between 2 and 4 hours and requires us to cut the connection off for a few minutes only.
  • For new housing estates and apartment buildings, which are usually already connected to the fiber network, the technician simply activates your services on the fiber network, which takes much less time. A small hole may have to be drilled in the wall to pass the cable.

In all cases, you can continue your activities as usual. Before leaving, the technician will make sure everything is working perfectly.

As a tenant, all you have to do is send a request to Scarlet. The landlord cannot oppose the choice of operator, nor the installation of fiber at the tenant's request. Nevertheless, we advise you to inform him/her.

In a co-owned buildings, all owners will normally have already been notified of the arrival of fiber in the building through the general meeting or by the management company or building manager.

Fiber can be produced entirely in Europe and is made of glass from silicon dioxide, the most abundant element on earth after oxygen, found in sand, clay, rocks and even water. Its extraction is therefore not harmful for the environment.

Additionally, fiber consumes 4 times less electricity than copper and its production has a very low ecological footprint: 0.06 kg of CO2 for fiber compared to 1.000 kg for 2 kg of copper wire (used for your current connection).

Switching to this future-proof technology makes sense for the environment and the climate!
