Scarlet Mailbox Guide: Settings and tips

Attention, Scarlet mailbox update!

The Scarlet mailbox management tool will change in November 2024. We need to identify every mailbox owner. Without complete and up-to-date data, we will be unable to create your e-mail account in the new messaging tool.

For incoming e-mail, you can use either POP3 or IMAP, both of which are active by default. If you check your e-mails from multiple devices, we recommend using IMAP.

  • Server for incoming e-mail (POP3): pop.scarlet.be Port: 995 (SSL enabled)
  • Server for incoming e-mail (IMAP): imap.scarlet.be Port: 993 (SSL enabled)

For outgoing e-mails, it is best to use a secure connection (SSL) if you are using several devices outside, so you can also send e-mails from a connection of another provider. Make sure you also activate the option my server requires authentication and enter the username and password of your mailbox.

  • Server for outgoing e-mail (SMTP): smtp.scarlet.be Port: 465 (SSL and « my server requires authentication » enabled)

IMAP ensures that e-mails remain available on the Scarlet e-mail server when you download them via your e-mail program. Unlike POP3, which deletes e-mails from the Scarlet e-mail servers after you download them via our e-mail program, unless the option leave a copy of messages on the server is enabled.

Some pros and cons of using POP3 and IMAP:

  • IMAP allows you to check your e-mails from any computer. To do so with POP3, you need to enable the option Leave a copy of messages on the server.
  • With IMAP, you risk reaching your mailbox's maximum capacity, meaning you won't receive any more e-mails. You will have to delete e-mails regularly. POP3 lets you keep as many e-mails as you want because they are stored locally on your computer. If the option Leave a copy of messages on the server for POP3 is enabled, your messages are saved on our server. It is advisable to specify the number of days that your messages are saved on our server to avoid your mailbox reaching its maximum capacity when you enable this option.
  • IMAP allows you to save the (personal) folder structure on each computer, while POP3 requires you to recreate the (personal) folder structure on each computer.

POP3 and IMAP are active by default.

You can continue to use your e-mail address free of charge for up to 18 months after termination. The existing username (login) and password remain valid.
Would you like to continue to benefit from this facility beyond those 18 months? No worries, for the moment no action is required and it remains free of charge. In the future, we reserve the right, in accordance with applicable law, to:

  • ask you if you wish to continue using this facility and
  • charge a fee for this extension.

In this case, we will contact you on your Scarlet e-mail address at least 3 months in advance and explain the conditions of the extension.
